Our Story at Baltic Nectar

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the smallest yet most vital members of our team – the bees! Despite their size, these tireless and extraordinary creatures are the true architects of everything we have today.

In a quiet clearing beside the forest, my father set down his very first three beehives. Guided by the age-old wisdom of his grandfather and uncle, he embarked on what began as a humble hobby. Early missteps—lost swarms drifting into the trees, stubborn queens refusing to cooperate, and more than a few sticky fingers—soon transformed into invaluable lessons, each one sharpening his skill and deepening his reverence for these remarkable insects.

Season by season, his enthusiasm proved contagious. My mother joined the effort, and before long our little enterprise blossomed into a bustling apiary of some seventeen hives. Weekends were spent tending colonies, crafting wooden boxes, and mastering the art of extraction. The moment we tasted that first golden flow of honey—warm, fragrant, and pure—we knew we had something special to share with friends, neighbours, and eventually, the wider community.

As the years went by, my parents' dedication paid off. The number of hives steadily increased, transforming our few hives into a bustling apiary. With around 70 hives, our family became more involved in harvesting, building hives and extracting. The sweet taste of our honey was a delight, and we soon shared it with friends and neighbours.

At the midway point of our journey, our hive count surpassed 110, and beekeeping evolved from a pastime into the heartbeat of our family farm. Yet with that growth came fresh challenges: colonies swarming off into the woods or succumbing to mysterious diseases, and our little team perpetually stretched thin by back-breaking work.

Some mornings, we’d arrive to find frames chewed or toppled by curious wildlife—raccoons, woodpeckers, even rodents looking for a warm nook. And on more than one occasion, the most unnerving surprise awaited us under the insulating blankets: a snake curled up, basking in the hive’s residual warmth.

There were days when we’d squeeze three fully loaded hives into the back of our minivan—entrance ports carefully sealed for safety—and inch down country lanes at a snail’s pace, hearts in our throats, reminding ourselves that every bump in the road could spell disaster.

Despite every setback and unexpected hurdle, we remained unwavering in our dedication—stubborn, even—in pursuing our dream. Without the tireless collaboration of our family, many hands and hearts working as one, we simply could not have managed such a vast operation. Fueled by love, guided by nature’s rhythms, and buoyed by each small victory, we press onward—undaunted, hopeful, and ready for whatever the next chapter brings.

Today, we proudly manage 216 thriving hives. What began as my father’s passion has grown into a full-time pursuit, blending age-old tradition with modern innovation. Each jar of Baltic Nectar honey carries the legacy of patient craftsmanship, the health of our forests, and the dedication of a family united by one simple dream: to bring the purest taste of nature to your table.

Why our customers swear by Baltic Nectar honey:

  • Baltic Nectar raw honey is never heated (thermally processed), preserving more than 15 essential natural hydrolytic and redox enzymes (such as diastase, invertase, catalase, peroxidase, and maltase) and over 100 other chemical compounds (including alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, organic acids, esters, and essential amino acids). At Baltic Nectar, we are dedicated to delivering unprocessed honey that retains its full nutritional value and natural integrity.

  • With two decades of farming experience, the Baltic Nectar team knows exactly when honey reaches its full maturity for harvest. If liquid drops fall after shaking a frame directly from the hive, it signals that the honey isn't ready yet. The bees still need to complete the breakdown of starch into oligosaccharides and dextrins and the inversion of sucrose into monosaccharides. The honey must also reach the proper density, with moisture content reduced to a natural level, ensuring no drops fall. Only when these processes are complete is Baltic Nectar honey harvested, its quality confirmed by rigorous laboratory, veterinary and sanitary examinations.

  • The ratio of nectar sources in Baltic Nectar honey is determined entirely by the instincts of our bees. Our honey is never an artificial blend of different types (it is not a cuvée). Baltic Nectar honey is never mixed with other honey, altered in any way, or enhanced with additives. We are proud to offer Baltic Nectar honey in its purest form, just as nature intended. At Baltic Nectar, we value fairness and hard work, qualities that we believe are essential to producing an authentic and natural product.

Ethos at Bee Farming

At Baltic Nectar, we adhere to traditional beekeeping practices that prioritize the well-being and natural behaviour of our bees. During the winter months, Baltic Nectar bees are sustained with their provisions of honey, bee bread, and propolis. We never rely on artificial additives or supplements, ensuring that Baltic Nectar honey maintains its natural purity and exceptional quality. This unwavering commitment is at the heart of Baltic Nectar’s operation, allowing our bees to thrive in a healthy and natural environment, while delivering honey that truly reflects the essence of nature.
